Workshops November 17, 2007: A round-robin “pattern” workshop offers 10-20 warped looms, each a different pattern. Participants submit a pattern in advance and bring a loom warped with that pattern to the workshop. When the workshop concludes, participants have a collection of pattern samples they've woven, and a notebook of drawdowns. The next Pattern Workshop will be November 17-18 at Two Rivers Mansion. May 10 & 11, 2008: Garments from Leftovers. Instructor: Daryl Lancaster, Handwoven Magazine fashion color forecaster. Ideas in using leftover scraps of handwoven fabrics to create garments. Demonstrations, Teaching & Shows The Guild demonstrates weaving and spinning each year at the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists Fair in Nashville. The three-day fair draws approximately 30,000 spectators and shoppers to Nashville's Centennial Park. By showing people how handwoven fabrics and handspun yarns and threads are created, the Guild helps preserve a piece of our cultural heritage, as well as helping people appreciate one-of-a-kind work of creative hands. The Guild participates in other demonstrations at schools, historic homes, scout meetings, festivals and fairs throughout middle Tennessee. In addition, Guild members frequently offer classes in conjunction with other organizations. No dates or locations are finalized at the moment. Special interest study groups often form within the Guild. Recent groups studied and created: poppana, double weave, and towels, and weaving for garments. New study groups are expected to form in the fall of 2007. The Guild has a long history of collective shows of the members' work. For many years, biennial shows were at Cheekwood Botanical Garden Museum of Art in Nashville. More recently, Ruby Green Gallery in downtown Nashville, and Madison Art Center in Madison, Tennessee, hosted shows. Some work included in shows is for sale. Individual members also sell their creations at various events throughout the area. |
